Wood is the best natural insulator available. It is far better than brick and plaster.

Find out  what makes a log home in Spain  an attractive alternative.

"Naturally beautiful"

As wood is a natural resource, this means it blends beautifully with natural surroundings. Wood homes are ideal alternatives as country homes for permanent living or as second homes.

Best Natural insulator

Wood is the best natural insulator available. It is far better than brick and plaster. Typically a 220mm brick wall that has been plastered has an insulation u-value of 2.12 W / m² k whereas the equivalent in wood would be around 0.27 W / m² k. The wood equivalent is almost 8 times more efficient.

Wide range of sizes and designs

A log home can range from a small structure designed for 1-2 people to fully fetched structures with over 200 m² of living space. A log home can be bigger and more sophisticated than a traditional villa and for a lot less money.

A wooden structure, does not impose restrictions on the home utilities. Electricity, plumbing, air conditioning , heating, saunas, luxury kitchens and much more can be accommodated in a log home in the same way as a traditional building.

All weather

Wood is a natural material able to withstand the test of extreme weather conditions. For centuries, wood has been used in countries of extreme conditions such as in Siberia and Scandinavia.

Quick, lower costs and fewer risks

Log homes are prefabricated and can be up and ready for living is 6-8 weeks. Because the home is delivered in prefabricated building blocks, the construction process more straight forwards than a traditional building and therefore carries less risks in delays.

One of the great advantages of a log home is that the cost per m² is much less than a traditional property. Typically, a log home can cost between £115-£370 per m² depending on the type of log and other building materials used.

Environmentally friendly

Wood is a natural resource which can be easily managed by replanting as it is used up. Unlike other building materials such as cement which once used can not be re-grown or replaced.

The refining processes to produce building materials such as brick, cement and aggregates all require high amounts of energy and therefore aren't doing the environment any favours.

Lasts a long time

Wood is a lasting natural material and provided it is cared for, a log home can last for as long, if not longer than a modern building. Log homes built in places with harsh weather conditions like Siberia and North Scandinavia are still with us, 100 years after their construction.

Less problems with condensation and damp

As well as being an excellent insulator, wood is a material that breathes and helps keep condensation down. Log homes are built above ground which allows air to circulate underneath the structure and therefore keeping the ground wood structures from damp thus preserving the wood.
